When he founded Optikos, Stephen Fantone realized that he needed a logo for the new company. One day, while looking through the rare Atlas of Optical Phenomena, published in Germany in 1962, he came upon a photograph of an image that immediately caught his attention. "What fascinated me," says Stephen, "was the marvelous symmetry of the image. The beauty of the image, plus the way in which it illustrated the point that no lens is perfect, made it in my mind, a most fitting logo for a company devoted to optical engineering and optical image quality evaluation."
