Student Opportunities

My experience at Optikos has allowed to me to develop several in-demand skills such as machine design, precision mechanics, CAD, drafting, and optical system design. I was able to work on a broad range of projects, many of which I was able to take ownership of and learn from hands-on. The mentorship and knowledge I received from other Engineers at Optikos has been amazing and has allowed me to grow tremendously as both an engineer and problem solver.

I learned so much at Optikos, ranging from the foundational engineering skills that will serve me at any future job to very specific (and very cool!) knowledge about opto-mechanics and precision mechanics. The team is committed to giving co-ops meaningful work, and everyone is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about their projects.  Working at Optikos gives interns the unique chance to be exposed to a wide range of extremely complex and impressive projects, and I know that the technologies and techniques I’ve seen here will inform how I approach my designs in the future.

At Optikos I was able to develop a wide range of engineering skills and gain real-world design experience that I know I wouldn’t have gotten anywhere else. Optikos provides a unique opportunity to learn with people that care about your personal and professional development in a field that very few people get the chance to delve into. I was lucky enough to spend 10 months here, and there’s no doubt in my mind that I would do it all over again.

Once I had my summer internship here, I couldn’t stay away. By fostering a collaborative and academic environment, Optikos has allowed me to expand both my optical engineering knowledge and explore other disciplines. No day at the office looks the same, and I always look forward to hearing about my coworkers’ projects and offering any help I can give. Optikos is the perfect place for a young professional to start in the engineering world, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to turn my internship into a full time position here.

You really can’t ask for a better co-op than here in the mechanical engineering department. I was able to learn so many new ways to go about my designs and improve my skills in both drawing and modeling – and they’re way, way better than they were when I came in here.

I learned the most from the human resources available to us, such as the mechanical engineering team, our manager Dan – just the real world experiences and their prior work and projects they worked on brings so many different perspectives on how to engineer and design things that you pick up and learn the entire time you’re here.
