Optikos hosted the NES-OSA meeting October 25, 2016, held during the OSA Centennial. Special guest, Ari Friberg, Ph.D., presented his talk on Coherence in Modern Optics to a full audience. Dr. Friberg, an internationally known expert in coherence theory, started working in this field under the supervision of Professor Emil Wolf. He touched on a number of contemporary issues, including the overlap between classical coherence theory and modern quantum coherence theory. Ari brought his affable demeanor to engage a diverse optical audience on a subject of topical research in modern optics. Several of us knew Ari as a graduate student at The Institute of Optics and it was great to renew old friendships.
