The company was founded on a singular mission: achieving the impossible with optics. How it all began
Our story begins on September 9th, 1982, in the home of Dr. Stephen D. Fantone in Saugus, Massachusetts. It was there that we opened our doors as an optical engineering consultancy, serving our first clients Polaroid Corporation and Tinsley Laboratories. Our vision quickly took up roots through the compelling vision that optics could be the enabling technology for breakthrough products across industries.
What companies needed were specialized experts that could not only think of brilliant solutions, but also be able to bring those innovations to market. Starting off with a handful of engineers, Optikos grew into a fully sized team at our first Cambridge location, where we began developing cutting-edge metrology products alongside our consulting services.
Over four decades later, we've grown into the world's largest independent optical engineering team, operating from our 50,000 square feet facility in Wakefield, Massachusetts. Our 90+ person team now works across three hyper-specialized disciplines: engineering services, precision manufacturing, and advanced metrology through our IQ Lab™.
