We're always looking to take on exciting new projects.
That's what we do here at Optikos. Optics is what we do, and we do it all — and that's lead us to some pretty incredible projects. See how we'll handle your project every step of the way, from discovery to pilot build, and learn how the Optikos Experience will help make your idea a viable manufactured product.
Our Product Development Roadmap
Phase 0: Feasibility
- Business Requirements
- Search Results
Step Explanation
In this critical first step, our team of engineers will work alongside you to analyze business requirements and project research results to ensure the feasibility of your idea, identify risks in development and production, and develop technical requirements for a smooth project timeline. At the end of this stage, we will be able to provide a system architecture and technical spec. v1 for the project.
Phase 1: Breadboard/Risk Reduction
- Technical Spec. v1
- Risk Analysis
- Design of Experiments
Step Explanation
The next step of our design process aims to create an experimental breadboard and to understand risk reduction of the project. We'll also begin to formulate a cost forecast analysis to provide your team, and provide a technical spec. v2 of the project.
Phase 2: Design/Development
- Technical Spec v2
- Developmental Plan
- Risk Matrix
Step Explanation
Phase 2 is a critical step in our design process. Our team will take the technical spec. v2 and the development plan of the project, and begin our full preliminary design of your project.
This stage of the design process will account for project specifications like performance requirements, volume and assembly requirements, manufacturing feasibility, and more. The stage ends with a preliminary design review of the projected, and a costed bill of materials from our team. Once this is completed and approved, we can begin designing the first project prototype.
Phase 3: Alpha/Beta Prototype
- Critical Design Review Approval
- Preliminary Verification
Step Explanation
At this point in the project the critical design review has been approved and our team will begin to manufacture a works-like, looks-like prototype of your project. The results of this stage will provide a functional prototype of your project and will be repeated as prototyped is perfected to your standards and requirements.
Phase 4: Transfer to Manufacturing
- Verified Design
Step Explanation
Once a finalized, functional prototype has been created and the design has been verified, it's time to get this project ready for manufacture. Our team will create a production process and develop work instructions for manufacture of the product either in-house at Optikos or via your own manufacturing team, and will prove a qualified supplier list and documentation control information.
Phase 5: Pilot Build
- Manufacturing Readiness Review Approval
Step Explanation
At this stage of the process, we've created a working prototype, verified the design, and have a production process plan in place. Once we have gotten approval for the manufacturing readiness review, our expert engineering staff will begin field trials for further testing, and once finalized, product validation. We'll also provide finalized interface control documents and begin revision control at this stage.
Phase 6: Production/Commercialization
- Product Validation
Step Explanation
The final stage of our design process is production. Once the product validation is complete, we can begin manufacturing the product here or send the specifications to your in-house team to create working, reliable production units.
