Last week, Mark Bayer, host of the When Science Speaks podcast, released an exciting episode for the field of optics – an interview with Optikos President and CEO, and OSA 2020 President, Stephen D. Fantone.
“OSA is at the crossroads of many of the enabling technologies we encounter in our daily life today.” Fantone said in the interview. “Cellphones, autonomous vehicles, medical diagnostics, quantum computing, gene sequencing – they’re all enabled by optics, and our membership spans these technologies even more.”
During the episode, Fantone covered a wide range of optics-based topics currently on OSA’s plate – including projects to battle the COVID-19 epidemic and climate change; how OSA helps its members have their voices heard in emerging science policy, the pivot to digital meetings and lessons learned, and more.
“One of the nice things about The Optical Society is it’s really a community,” Fantone said. “It’s a forum.”
When Science Speaks is a weekly podcast on emerging science and technology — and the scientists and engineers behind those developments. You can listen to the entire episode titled “Optical Engineering and Key Real-World Applications with Stephen Fantone, PhD” on the When Science Speaks podcast here.
