Wendi Heinzelman, Dean of the University of Rochester, Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, met with U of R grads working at Optikos to discuss recent growth in engineering enrollment at the school. Since 2008, the Hajim School has more than doubled the number of undergraduate students–to over 1700 in 2017. In 2009, the School was named in honor of Edmund Hajim, a former student who bequeathed $30 million to the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
One-third of the University’s undergraduates are now enrolled in Engineering. The Institute of Optics, which has awarded nearly half of all U.S. optics degrees, is one of several departments and institutes that comprise the Hajim School. Exciting new developments at the School include the $100 million Institute for Data Science; and Barbara J. Burger iZone–to support students in developing innovative projects for “social, cultural, community, and economic impact.”
